October 2nd – Lab ’75
For business and law, it’s Harvard or Yale. For classical music, it’s Julliard or Eastman. For jazz and modern music, it’s Berklee, University of Miami or North Texas State University (NTSU now UNT). The most prestigious band at NTSU (UNT) is the One O’Clock Lab Band, named so because it meets at 1:00 PM. This is the band all the music students dream of and aspire to become a member of. One of the many notable musicians to come out of NTSU (UNT) is Lyle Mays, keyboardist for the Pat Metheny Group. He was a senior in 1975 and was the student leader of the One O’Clock Lab Band. Every year the lab band releases an album. The 1975 album presented tonight has songs all written and arranged by Lyle. The music is righteous and the album was Grammy nominated.
